Reported by Dr. Gaurav Bairwa from the Kronstad lab, Michael Smith Laboratories
Congratulations to Dr. Cara Haney on being awarded a ‘Canada Research Chair-Tier 2 chair-2016’ award in Molecular Mechanisms of Host-Microbiome Interactions. This award is held in her home department of Microbiology & Immunology.
The Canada Research Chairs Program invests approximately $265 million per year to attract and retain some of the world’s most accomplished and promising minds. This program stands at the centre of a national strategy to make Canada one of the world’s top countries in research and development.
Tier 2 CRC awards are given to emerging world-class researchers who have the potential to develop innovative research programs and provide exceptional training to future scientists.
Dr. Cara Haney is a faculty member in Michael Smith Laboratories, Microbiology & Immunology, and an associate member of the Botany Department. Utilizing the model plant Arabidopsis and its associated bacterial community, her research work is focused on delineating the genetic and environmental factors that shape the plant-microbiome interactions and influence the development and disease susceptibility in plants.
