Dr. Brumer’s ‘GlycoCage Technology’ funded by MSFHR’s Innovation to Commercialization Program
Dr. Harry Brumer, Professor at the Michael Smith Laboratories and Department of Chemistry, has won funding from the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research’s (MSFHR) Innovation to Commercialization (I2C) Program for the project, “A GlycoCaged Drug Delivery System To Improve The Treatment Of Inflammatory Bowel Disease“. Dr. Brumer and colleagues have developed a new approach to link anti-inflammatory steroids to a complex carbohydrate from vegetables. This carbohydrate protects the steroids, allowing them to pass to the lower bowel, where they are released by beneficial bacteria of the microbiota.
